GODS PROMISE TO US FOUND IN THE BOOK OF GENESIS:- GOD TOLD NOAH TO BUILD AN ARK, HOWEVER NOAH WASN'T A BOAT BUILDER OR CARPENTER. NOAH WAS A FARMER, A MAN MORE COMFORTABLE WITH DIRT ON HIS SHIRT AND A PLOUGH IN HIS HAND. YET AS GOD DECIDED HOW TO DEAL WITH THE EVIL IN HIS WORLD AT THIS TIME, NOAH STOOD OUT BECAUSE “HE WALKED FAITHFULLY WITH GOD.” [ GENESIS 6:9 ]

GOD SAW THAT HE WAS ABLE TO REACH AND TEACH THE HEART OF NOAH, AND TO HAVE THE STRENGTH TO RESIST THE EVIL ALL AROUND HIM AND DO WHAT WAS RIGHT. WHEN WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE GOD COME OUR WAY WE OFTEN DON'T SEEM QUALIFIED TO DO THE WORK. THANKFULLY, GOD IS NOT NESSARILY CONCERNED WITH THE SKILLS THAT WE HAVE. INSTEAD GOD SEES AND REALISES OUR CHARACTOR, OUR LOVE FOR HIM AND OUR WILLINGNESS TO ALWAYS TRUST HIM. HE CAN USE US AND EVERYONE IN BIG OR SMALL WAYS TO ACCOMPLISH HIS WILL AND WORK ON THIS EARTH.

FATHER, WHERE SHALL I WORK TODAY?

AND MY LOVE FLOWED WARM AND FREE.

A FARMING TALE:

THE STORY IS TOLD OF AN OLD FARMER WHO INVITED THE MINISTER ,TO LUNCH AT THE FARM ONE SUNDAY.

TOGETHER, THEY SAT DOWN AT THE TABLE TO LOVELY ROAST CHICKEN- AND, AFTERWARDS AS THEY SETTLED DOWN AT THE WINDOW WITH THEIR COFFEE, THE MINISTER POINTED TO A FINE ROOSTER, WHICH STRUTTED ACROSS THE FARMYARD. “MY, ANDREW,” HE SAID, “BUT THAT'S A PROUD BIRD YOU'VE GOT THERE, AND NO MISTAKE.”

THE FARMER LOOKED AT HIS GUEST WITH A SMILE. “HE SHOULD BE PROUD, INDEED!” HE REPLIED. “AFTER ALL ONE OF HIS SONS HAS JUST ENTERED THE MINISTRY….”

NOT JUST AT HARVEST TIME,

DO WE NEED TO HAVE A REASON.

WE CAN PLANT SEEDS OF HOME,

IN AND OUT, OF EVERY SEASON.

WE CAN REAP SOULS TO JESUS,

NO MATTER THE TIME OF YEAR.

IT DOSEN'T HAVE TO BE AUTUMN,

HARVEST TIME, IS ALWAYS HERE.

SEEDS OF FAITH CAN BE PLANTED,

INTO THE HEARTS OF EVERYONE.

WEATHER UNDER SNOWY COVERS,

OR THE WARM BLANKET OF THE SUN.

WE CAN GATHER IN THE LOST,

BRING BACK A WANDERING SOUL.

IT DOSEN'T HAVE TO BE FALL,

FOR THE HARVEST, GODS CONTROLS.

IT'S ALWAYS HARVEST TIME,

WE DON'T NEED TO HAVE A REASON.

WE CAN SOW SEEDS OF ETERNAL HOPE,

IN AND OUT, OF EVERY SEASON!

EVERY SO OFTEN, WE ALL NEED TO LOOK UP TO THE STARS. ONLY TWO GALAXIES- THE MILKY WAY AND ANDROMEDA ARE VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE.

THE FORMER CONTAINS 500 BILLION STARS, AND THE LATTER, ONLY A BLOB OF LIGHT TO US ON EARTH, IS HOME TO HALF A TRILLION STARS. THESE NEIGHBOURING GALAXIES ARE ONLY JUST TWO OF THE ONE HUNDRED BILLION GALAXIES WITH MULTITUDES OF STARS. FRIGHTENING? AMAZING? INCONCEIVABLE YES, ALL THESE ARE GODS WORK, THE CREATOR GOD THE GREAT CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE AND YES WE ALL STAND AMAZED.

SOME PEOPLE HAVE A KNACK OF FINDING A SERMON OF CHALLENGING THOUGHTS ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME. MARTIN LUTHER WAS ONE OF THEM, AS THE QUOTE CLEARLY SHOWS:-

“I HAVE ONE PREACHER I LOVE BETTER THAN ANY OTHER. HE IS MY TAME ROBIN, WHO PREACHES TO ME EVERY DAY. MOSTLY EVERY YEAR THE WEATHER IS ALL WRONG, WE'VE ALL NOTICED THAT. IT'S TOO DRY AND NOTHING WILL ROW. IT'S TOO WET AND THE ROOT CROPS GET WASHED OUT OF THE SOIL. THERE IS NO SUN, OR THE WINDS ARE TOO HIGH.

AND YEY, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, EVERY SEED TIME IS FOLLOWED BY HARVEST, AND THE FIELDS BECOME GOLDEN, AND THE PEOPLE ARE FED.

SO ONCE AGAIN WE COME TO THE CLIMAX OF THE YEAR, THE TIME WHEN TREE AND BUSH, AND FIELD YIELD UP THEIR FRUIT AND CROPS.

ANOTHER MIRACLE FOR OUR DELIGHT AND TO FEED US. ANOTHER REMINDER OF GODS PROMISE, THAT AS LONG AS EARTH REMAINS THERE WILL BE SEED TIME AND HARVEST.

Scam Alert – ‘Visa’ Phone Message:

Calls are being received by residents with a per-recorded message stating – ‘This is Visa. £600 is about to leave your account. Please press ‘1’ to speak to one of our operators’. This is a scam. If you receive this call or similar, do not press 1 and hang up the call. If in doubt, contact your bank using your own trusted method. If you have already responded to this call and have given out personal or financial details to the operator, contact your bank to make them aware. Also report this scam to Action Fraud, the National Fraud and Cyber Crime Reporting Centre on-0300 123 2040.

There has been an increase in calls to the police relating to sheds/garages and out buildings being broken into in the New Inn area. Unknown offenders have been forcing secure doors and taking items from within, such as power tools. There have been 4 reports so far this month along with some hanging baskets taken from the front of houses. Please make sure that any valuables are hidden from view in sheds/ outbuildings and windows covered up. Also please consider the installation of shed alarms where possible. Anything suspicious please report to police via 101.

Car number plates being stolen from pontypool area please be aware. People are received a phone call from 01594530835 An Asian sounding man who says he represents the UK government and has money to refund me from bank charges which the UK government says are illegal. He knew my name and address and wanted information from me. I ended the call. Another scam.

To All residents, Gwent Police received a number of calls last night relating to a group of males traveling around different parts of Pontypool trying garage doors, a number of garages were entered and items were taken. Police managed to recover the vehicle involved but there was no one present with the vehicle. Please report any suspicious activity to police on 101 and remain vigilant in rear lanes and garage areas. Scam Alert – Bank Scams in Gwent Help us to solve this crime where a resident received a phone call claiming to be from the Metropolitan Police ‘Serious Fraud Unit’ > If you have any information, please contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 255 of 10/08/19. Police will never call you to ask you to verify your personal bank details or financial details by phone and we would never seize counterfeit money from you using a courier service.

IT LIES ON THE RIVER LAGAN, BETWEEN LURGAN AND DROMORE. ST PATRICK IS BELIEVED TO HAVE FOUNDED A MONASTERY HERE IN THE 5TH CENTURY. A GARDEN AND CEMETERY MARK THE SITE. “DOMHNACH CLUANA” MEANS “CHURCH OF THE MEADOW.” DISPITE VIKING INVASIONS IN THE 9TH CENTURY, ACCOUNTS FROM SUBSEQUENT CENTURIES MENTION A FLOURISHING CHURCH.

JESUS ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO HIM:- VERILY, VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, EXCEPT A MAN BE BORN AGAIN HE CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

WE ALL NEED TO RECOMMIT TO GOD THIS EASTER AND BEGIN AGAIN.

THE EMPTY TOMB PROVES CHRISTIANITY.

THE EMPTY CHURCH DENIES IT.

BECAUSE THE TOMB IS EMPTY, THE CHURCHES SHOULD BE FULL.

THINGS LIKE THAT DO HAPPEN SOMETIMES. A NEARBY MACHANIC ,WAS URGENTLY RUSHED TO THE CHURCH TO PUT THINGS RIGHT, A VERY RELIEVED CHURCH OFFICIAL SCRIBBLED A HURRIED NOTE, AND HAD IT PASSED UP TO THE VICAR.THE NOTE READ: “THE POWER WILL BE BACK ON AFTER THE PRAYER.” I HAVE THE FEELING THAT THOSE EIGHT WORDS WOULD HAVE MADE AN APPROPRIATE TEXT FOR THE SERMON.... FOR IS'NT IT GLORIOUSLY TRUE THAT ALWAYS AFTER PRAYER, WE HAVE THE POWER WE NEED?

WANTED WORKERS FOR GOD, AMPLE OVERTIME.

CHURCHES UP AND DOWN THE LAND, DURING EASTER WILL BE SINGING, “CHRIST THE LORD IS RISEN TODAY.”NOTHING ELSE IN THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION, HAS SO GLORIOUS A MESSAGE OF HOPE AS EASTER SUNDAY, SYMBOLIC OF THE VICTORY OF LIFE OVER DEATH. BUT IT ALWAYS SEEMED TO ME, THAT EASTER DECLARES ONE THING TO US ALL, WHETHER TO GO TO CHURCH OR NOT: A NEW BEGINNING IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE.FRIEND, WE LEAVE PREACHING TO THE MINISTERS....BUT, I CANNOT HELP SAYING THIS: HOWEVER WRONG YOUR WAY OF LIFE MAY BE, HOWEVER HOPELESS TOMORROW SEEMS, HOWEVER GREAT YOUR SORROW, YOU CAN START AGAIN- AND ANY DAY IN THE YEAR MAY BE YOUR EASTER.

NO ONE CAN IGNORE JESUS FOREVER.

A MINISTER ONCE SAID IN HIS EXPERIENCE VERY FEW PEOPLE, EVER DELIBERATELY DECIDE TO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION. THEY JUST FORGET ABOUT IT.  “ IT'S AS IF, “ HE WENT ON, “ THEY PUT THEIR RELIGION  IN A DRAWER AND LEAVE IT THERE- WEEKS, MONTHS,  YEARS, THEN ONE DAY THERE'S UNEXPECTED LOSS OR  TROUBLES-AND THE PERSON HURRIEDLY OPENS THE  DRAWER, AND FINDS ONLY DUST.  “NO, YOU CAN'T KEEP RELIGION IN A DRAWER OR ON A  SHELF. IT'S SOMETHING YOU'VE GOT TO LIVE WITH AND  USE EVERY DAY. “ IT MEANS READING YOUR BIBLE, SAYING YOUR PRAYERS, THINKING AND DOING FOR  OTHERS- OPENING YOUR HEART TO THE SILENT VOICE OF GOD.

PEOPLE IGNORE GOD AND THEN BLAME HIM FOR ALL THEIR PROBLEMS.

THE GRAVE CLOTHES:

I LOVE THE EASTER STORY,

THE TIME THE STONE WAS ROLLED.

BUT WHY ON EARTH WOULD JESUS,

THE GRAVE CLOTHES NEATLY FOLD.

I SEARCHED TO FIND A REASON,

I COULD NOT LET IT LIE.

ONE DAY I FOUND THE ANSWER,

I FOUND A REASON WHY.

IT ALL CAME FROM A HISTORY BOOK,

A LADY THAT I KNOW.

HAD CUSTOMS OF A CARPENTER,

TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO.

WHEN WORKING FOR A CUSTOMER,

A TOWEL WAS SUPPLIED.

THE CARPENTER WAS MAKING SURE,

HIS HANDS AND FACE WERE DRIED.

WHEN THE WORK WAS FINISHED,

THE CUSTOM THEN WOULD BE.

TO DRY OFF WITH A TOWEL,

AS THE CONGREGATION OF ST MACHAR'S CATHEDRAL, ABERDEEN, ENTERED THE CHURCH, THEY SAW A SHORT COIL OF NEW ROPE HANGING JUST INSIDE THE DOOR, AND BESIDE IT A NOTICE WITH ONE WORD ON IT- “ REMEMBER?” NO WONDER THEY WERE SOME PUZZLED FACES IN THE PEWS THAT MORNING, WHAT ON EARTH COULD A LENGTH OF ROPE DO WITH THEM- AND WHAT DID THEY HAVE TO REMEMBER? THE MINISTER THEN EXPLAINED. IT'S SEEMS THAT HE HEARD THAT A ROPE MAKER IN THE CITY TELL HOW ONE OF THE DELICATE FIBRES THAT MAKE UP A ROPE WOULD EASILY SNAP AT A TOUCH. YET WHEN HUNDREDS OF THEM ARE WOVEN INTO A ROPE NOT EVEN THE STRONGEST MAN ON EARTH COULD BRAKE THEM.  THE STRENGTH OF THE ROPE DEPENDED ON THE FIBRES- AND THE MORE FIBRES THAT WENT INTO THE ROPE THE STRONGER IT WOULD BE. EACH MEMBER OF THE CHURCH IS LIKE A FIBRE IN A ROPE. PERHAPS THEY'RE UNABLE TO DO MUCH ON THEIR OWN, BUT UNITED IN THEIR FAITH THEY FIND STRENGTH IN EACH OTHER AND THE MORE POWERFUL THAT FAITH BECOMES. THATS WHY THE ROPE AND THE REMINDER ARE TO BE LEFT AT THE DOOR OF ST MACHAR'S A CONSTANT CHALLENGE TO THE FOLK WHO PASS IN AND OUT.

CHAPEL NEWS:                                                                      COFFEE MORNING STARTED IN MARCH AND WAS WELL ATTENDED, IT'S GOOD THAT WE ARE ABLE TO REACH OUT TO THE COMMUNITY.  A DEDICATION WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE CHAPEL ON PALM SUNDAY 14TH APRIL, THEY EXPECT 55 PEOPLE TO ATTEND. HOW GOOD IT IS FOR A COUPLE TO BRING THEIR BABY FORWARD FOR A DEDICATION. THIS CHAPEL IS HERE FOR EVERYONE, WE THANK GOD FOR THAT. WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT A PLACE OF WORSHIP FOR EVERYONE.  THE CHRISTMAS TREE WAS OUTSIDE THE CHAPEL, FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST YEAR, I BELIEVE IT WAS A WONDERFUL WELCOME FOR EVERYONE. THE LIGHTS WERE LIT AND SHONE AS A WELCOME BEACON TO WELCOME EVERYONE INTO CHAPEL, OVER THE CHRISTMAS PERIOD. Sometime overnight on the 14th of February a camper van has been entered and items taken whilst parked on a driveway in the Hillcrest area of New Inn. There doesn’t appear to be any damage to the van, no signs of forced entry. We are asking if anyone has seen anything in the area overnight and to report information to police and quote the following crime number 1900056855.  Police received a call on the 5th of March, that a garage has been broken into along Newport Road, New inn. Damage has been caused to the roof to gain entry unknown if anything has been taken as this time. We are asking if anyone within the community has seen or heard anything within this area over the weekend. Our 2019 coffee mornings began on Friday 1st March. As it was St. David’s Day, we celebrated by having Welsh cakes with our tea and coffee and daffodils were the choice of flowers for the table. We were well supported and everyone enjoyed catching up with family and village news. We heard that one of our past members, Edna is one hundred years old on 21 March and one of our current group, Doreen is ninety years old on 4 April. Since our coffee morning Myra another one of our ladies has been in and out of hospital. Myra is feeling a little better and enjoys the company of visitors.   Our next coffee morning is on Friday 5 April, as usual, everyone is welcome to enjoy a tea or coffee and a chat.                                                                      Margaret.

Sometime this week a van was broken into in the Golf Road and a number of tools were taken, tools consisted of drills/saws and a bag of hand tools. The van doors were not forced and no windows smashed so its believed offenders could have used some form fob. To all residents please report anything suspicious to police via 101 so officers can come to the area to conduct a search. Sometime overnight on the 23rd of November a number of windows have been smashed on properties within the following streets Station Road,Wern Road,Oakland’sRoad and the County Hospital in Griffithstown, we are asking if anyone has seen or heard anything to contact police on 101 or contact your local officer on the following email Hannah.brown@gwent.pnn.police.uk

We hold our coffee Morning from 10.30am on the first Friday of the Month from March to November. During the year our numbers have steadily increased. Our October Coffee Morning was in aid of the Macmillan Charity, it was very well attended and we had over £160 in donations. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the morning so successful. Thanks are also expressed to Avril who did so much for our Coffee Mornings. Each month we wondered what colour or theme Avril had chosen for the tables, we were never disappointed. Hopefully Avril will be in a position to join us again in the future. At our last Coffee Morning for 2018, nineteen of us enjoyed tea/ coffee and a chat.

The next meeting is our Christmas Lunch in December. Our Coffee Mornings start again on Friday 1st March which is St. David’s Day, I’m sure we will all be, wearing our daffodils. Everyone is very welcome to join us. Margaret.

JESUS THE CARPENTER OF NAZARETH, NEEDS JOINERS!

ONE SUNDAY A MAN FOUND HIMSELF IN A TOWN, THAT HE HAD NOT VISITED FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

IN THE MORNING HE WENT TO CHURCH, THERE WAS A LARGE CONGREGATION, AND THE SINGING WAS GRAND AND INSPIRING.  IN THE EVENING HE WENT TO ANOTHER CHURCH. IT WAS BADLY LIT. THERE WERE 35 PEOPLE INCLUDING THE MINISTER. THE ORGAN WAS OUT OF ORDER, AND OUR VERY FEEBLE PRAISES WERE SUNG TO THE ACCOMPANIMENT OF A RATHER TINNY PIANO. AS HE CAME AWAY AND ELDERLY WOMAN TOUCHED HIS ARM. “I'M AFRAID IT HAS'NT BEEN AN INSPIRING SERVICE, BUT WE LOVE THIS PLACE.”   AND SOME HOW HE REALISED THAT THE SMALL CONGREGATION DESERVED PRAISE- PRAISE FOR LOYALITY AN DEVOTION. THE DUTY OF ATTENDING THE ONE CHURCH WAS A DELIGHT, THE OTHER WAS ALMOST A SACRIFICE. IT REQUIRES COURAGE TO KEEP THE LAMP OF FAITH DIMLY BURNING; YET PERHAPS THOSE WHO REGULARLY WORSHIP IN THAT POORLY ATTENDED CHURCH RECIEVED ABUNDANT BLESSINGS. THIS STORY REMINDS ME OF MOUNT ZION, SOMETIMES OUR NUMBERS ARE LOW, BUT WE MUST CONTINUE WITH OUR PRAISE AND WORSHIP KEEPING THE CHAPEL OPEN, WITH THE BELIEF THAT OTHERS WILL BE SENT ALONG TO JOIN US.

JESUS ALWAYS WELCOMES YOU BACK!

NO-ONE CAN IGNORE JESUS FOREVER!

DRAW NEAR TO GOD, AND HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU!

A MAN WENT TO A SMALL CHURCH IN THE HILLS AND ONE OF A CONGREATION OF 20.  TWO MILES HE WALKED THAT WINTER MORNING- AND ON THE WAY HE WONDERED WHY. WAS HE GOING BECAUSE AS A CHILD HE WAS BROUGHT UP TO ATTEND CHURCH ON SUNDAY?   OR WAS HE GOING BECAUSE AFTER HE COULD FEEL SUPERIOR TO THE FOLK WHO HAD NOT BOTHERED?  THEN THE CHOIR OF 4 ANSWERED THE QUESTION FOR HIM. THEY SAND A HYMN- “THE LORD IS IN HIS HOLY TEMPLE.”

SAY WHAT YOU WILL SOME HAVE DIFFERENT VIEWS, THE FACT STILL REMAINS THAT WE WERE BORN SPIRITUAL BEINGS, AND ARE MEANT TO WORSHIP AND PRAISE, AND TO WAIT UPON THE LORD THAT HE MAY SPEAK TO US.

THE GREATEST MESSAGE EVER HEARD, COMES FROM A EMPTY TOMB.

WHY PRAY, WHEN YOU CAN WORRY.

IT HAPPENED IN ONE INSTANT IN A COUNTRY CHURCH. HE WAS A YOUNG MAN ,STILL IN HIS TEENS. AND ON THAT SUNDAY MORNING AS HE WAITED FOR THE SERVICE TO BEGIN, HE LOOKED AROUND WITH A SENSE OF DESOLATION.   ONLY 5 OTHER WORSHIPERS WERE THERE. THE YOUNG MAN WONDERED WHY, HE HIMSELF HAD COME ON SUCH A DAMP, DREARY MORNING- EVEN THOUGH HIS GRAND FATHER WAS THE MINISTER.   THEN CAME THE SOFT SWISH OF ROBES, AND HIS GRAND FATHER ENTERED THE PULPIT. WITH HIM CAME A SENSE OF PEACE AND DIVINE ASSURANCE.   AT THAT VERY MOMENT THE YOUNG MAN FELT AN EMOTION THAT WENT DEEPER THAN ANY HE HAD EVER KNOWN.  THE YOUNG MAN IS NOW A PROMINENT MINISTER IN THE NORTH OF SCOTLAND. IF EVER HE FEELS DISCOURAGED, HE THINKS BACK TO THAT MOMENT IN THE ALMOST- EMPTY CHURCH, FOR HE KNOWS, THAT WHEN WE LEAST EXPECT IT, THE GREATEST WONDERS AND MIRACLES CAN HAPPEN.

SOME HYMNS ESPCECIALLY THE OLD SANKEY HYMNS HAVE REAL MEANING. SOMEONE ONCE SAID A HYMN CAN BECOME A WINDOW THROUGH WHICH A LIGHT CAN STREAM INTO MANY SOULS. IT WAS A HYMN “JUST AS I AM.” THAT BROUGHT THAT GREAT EVANGELIST BILLY GRAHAM TO THE LORD.

HE THAT BELIEVETH IN ME HATH EVERLASTING LIFE.

COME AS YOU ARE, BUT YOU WON'T LEAVE AS YOU WERE.

WHAT USE IS THERE IN BROARD CASTING SUNDAY SERVICES, IF PEOPLE HAVE NO TIME TO LISTEN.  YET THE ORACLES OF GOD STAND UNMOVED. ALWAYS THERE IS SOMEONE HELPED, CHEERED, GUIDED, INSPIRED, AND CONVERTED BY THOSE WHO ON THIS DAY BRING MIND AND HEART INTO THE REALM OF THINGS SPIRITUAL. AND ALWAYS SOME SPOKEN WORD OR FERVENT PRAYER OR HYMN OR A LITTLE SEED OF GOODNESS IS WELL WORTH WHILE.

GOD WHO FORFILLS HIMSELF IN STRANGE WAYS SPEAKS TO SOULS AND GIVES THEM NEWNESS OF LIFE.

CHAPEL NEWS:

MENNA AND I VISITED RAGLAN BAPTIST CHAPEL SATURDAY 18TH AUGUST, AS THEY CELEBRATED THE CHAPELS 200 YEARS. THERE WAS A GOOD NUMBER OF PEOPLE THERE FOR BOTH THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING CELEBRATIONS. IT WAS INTERESTING TO LEARN THAT THEY SHARED WITH MOUNT ZION BRYN MAUR JONES, AS THEIR PASTOR. PREVIOUS MINISTERS INCLUDE COLIN BURGE AND CLIVE KNIGHT, THEIR MODERATOR NOW IS HOWARD JONES. IT WAS GOOD TO SUPPORT THEM, IN THEIR TIME OF CELEBRATION.

IT WAS SAD TO LEARN OF THE DEATH OF ROLAND AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS. ROLAND ALONG WITH DAVID WERE REGULAR ATTENDERS OF MOUNT ZION. ROLAND WAS INDEED A JOY TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM, AND HE WOULD SIT, AND TAKE IN THE SERVICE, AND IM SURE HE KNEW EVERYTHING THAT WAS TAKING PLACE. FRANK, AFTER HIS SINGING AND GUITAR PLAYING WOULD ALWAYS GET A THUMBS UP FROM ROLAND. HE WILL BE SADLY MISSED BY EVERYONE AT MOUNT ZION. KEITH THE MANAGER FROM THEIR HOME INFORMED ME THAT THE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE ON AUGUST 31TH, 3PM AT THE CREM.

ALSO WITH SADNESS WE LEARN OF THE DEATH OF JANS AUNTIE GLADYS. AUNTIE GLADYS USUALY CAME ALONG WITH JAN TO OUR SERVICES, SITTING IN THE BACK ROW. EVERYONE KNEW HER AS AUNTIE GLADYS, SHE SPENT HER LAST DAYS IN A NURSING HOME IN NEWPORT, AND PASSED AWAY IN HER SLEEP. SHE WILL BE REMEMBERED AND MISSED BY ALL AT MOUNT ZION.

ON SUNDAY 26TH AUGUST, WE AS A CHAPEL WERE INVITED TO A SERVICE OF PRAISE AND HOPE AT GRIFFITHSTOWN BAPTIST CHAPEL. JON AND EMMA FROM RICHMOND ROAD TOOK THE SERVICE, AND GAVE ENCOURAGEMENT AND HOPE OF GODS WORK IN THE AREA. A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ATTENDED, AND IT WAS GOOD TO GET TOGETHER WITH OTHER CHURCHES IN PRAISE AND WORSHIP. WE AS A CHAPEL WERE WELL REPRESENTED, AND IT WAS A REALLY UPLIFTING SERVICE. WELL DONE TO JON, FOR ORGANISING AND FOR THE WELCOME WE ALL RECIEVED. IT'S ALWAYS UPLIFTING WHEN SO MANY BELIEVERS GET TOGETHER. THE NEXT JOINT SERVICE WILL BE SUNDAY 2ND DECEMBER WITH EMMA AT RICHMOND ROAD CHAPEL. DEREK.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH NEWS:

Action Fraud has had reports of cyber criminals sending emails to victims containing the victim’s passwords and a threat that they have filmed them on their computer watching adult videos. They continue to say that they have a copy of the victim’s social media and email contacts and unless they receive payment in Bitcoin, they will forward the film to them.

A report was made to police on the 9th of July that a garage had been broken into along Ponty Felin Lane. There has also been a report of a house burglary in the same area along with high value items taken from a garden from a property along The Highway.

On the 24/07/2018 a house along The Highway, New Inn was broken into sometime during the morning/early afternoon. If any residents have any information regarding this please contact Gwent Police on 101 and quote the above crime number.

#Scam Alert – The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and The Pensions Regulator (TPR) release a campaign today to warn people of pension scams that have been recorded and how to help protect yourself. The latest figures reveal that victims of pension scams lose an average of £91,000.

On the 12/08/18 between 1630 and 1730hrs a car was damaged in Church Close, New Inn. If any residents have any information regarding this incident please contact Gwent Police on 101 and quote the above crime number.

I love when God,

Not just at harvest time,

it doesn’t have to be Autumn
harvest time, is always here.

Seeds of faith can be planted,

whether under snowy covers

bring back a wandering soul

A GRAND OLD MINISTER DIED AT THE AGE OF 80. IN HIS WILL HE LEFT A GOLD WATCH AND AN OLD FASHHIONED TABLE DESK TO MALCOLM, A YOUNG FRIEND OF HIS. IN DUE COURSE MALCOLM RECIEVED HIS LEGACY, BUT WHEN HE OPENED THE DESK HE FOUND A EXTRA ITEM HE DIDN'T EXPECT. UNDER THE GREEN BAIZE CLOTH WAS A SERMON WRITTEN IN THE MINISTERS OWN HAND, AND THE TEXT WAS THESE WORDS FROM SAMUEL:- “THOU SHALT BE MISSED, BECAUSE THY SEAT WILL BE EMPTY.”

NOW, THAT SERMON COULDN'T HAVE BEEN INTENDED FOR MALCOLM, FOR HE IS A REGULAR ATTENDER AT CHURCH. BUT PERHAPS IT WAS MEANT FOR THOSE WHO NO LONGER ATTEND CHURCH. SO FOR THOSE PEOPLE MISSING WE CAN ALL THINK OF THAT BIBLE MESSAGE – “THOU SHALT BE MISSED, BECAUSE THY SEAT WILL BE EMPTY “.

GOD ISTN'T A OPTION, HE'S A NECESSITY!

FROM A LONDON SUBURB CAME THIS STORY:

ONE MONDAY MORNING A MINISTER WAS SURPRISED TO FIND A NOTE PUSHED THROUGH HIS FRONT DOOR. HE READ THE FOLLOWING WORDS:

“SIR, I'VE BEEN SPENDING THE WEEKEND HERE IN LONDON. I'VE FELT TERRIBLY DEPRESSED, AS I ALSO KNOW MY FOLKS ARE HAVING A TERRIBLE TIME. I VISITED YOUR CHURCH LAST NIGHT, AND THE SINGING OF HYMNS AND HEART WARMING SERMON, DID ME NO END OF GOOD. I BEGAN THIS DAY FEELING EQUAL TO ANYTHING. THANKS A LOT”

THE STRAGE THING IS THIS. ALL THE PREVIOUS WEEK THE MINISTER HAD BEEN VERY DEPRESSED AND WORRIED, BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE WAS'NT REALLY PREACHING AS HE OUGHT. THAT MONDAY MORNING NOTE FROM A STRANGER DID HIM THE WORLD OF GOOD AS WELL.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DO WE KNOW THAT ARE FEELING LOW, DOWN, AND DEPRESSED. COME ALONG AND HAVE YOUR SPIRIT AND SOUL REVIVED, IT COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

SO SHE PLEADED WITH THE MINISTER- WOULD HE WATCH OVER THEM? WOULD HE PROMISE TO HELP THEM FIND THE FAITH SHE HAD DENIED THEM?

THE MINISTER GLADLY GAVE HIS WORD- AND I KNOW HE WILL KEEP IT. AND I ALSO KNOW THAT THE MOTHER WHO WAS SO AFRAID DIED IN PEACE.

GOD'S GRACE IS FREE, BUT IT'S NOT CHEAP.

IT COST JESUS HIS LIFE!

Between 8pm on the 11th and 9am on the 12th index plates were stolen off a vehicle on Monmouth Close, New Inn, Pontypool. Did you seen anything? If you have any information please contact Gwent police on 101 and quote log 1800126312. Sometime between April 1st and April the 12th a garage on Caroline road, New Inn was broken into. The garage door had been bent back to gain entry. did you see or hear anything. If you have any information please contact Gwent police on 101 and quote log 1800126743. Torfaen has had a number of shed and garage breaks over the last few nights I would like to remind residents to secure any valuables and to make sure that doors/windows are secured. MOTHER OF GOD:

ON A HILL FAR AWAY STOOD A MOTHER,

SUBDUED BY HER ANGUISH AND LOSS,

LOOKING THROUGH TEARS OF TORMENT,

SHE MOURNED AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS.

WHEN JESUS LOOKED DOWN AT HIS MOTHER,

HE SAW A MOTHER WHO GRIEVES,

HE KNEW EVERYTHING SHE WAS THINKING,

WHEN NAILED BETWEEN TWO THEIVES.

SHE HEARD EVERY WORD THAT WAS SPOKEN,

I CARRY A CROSS IN MY POCKET:

I carry a cross in my pocket,
A simple reminder to me
That I am a Christian,
No matter where I may be.

This little cross isn’t magic,
Nor is it a good luck charm.
It isn’t meant to protect me
From every physical harm.

It’s not for identification
For all the world to see.
It’s simply an understanding
Between my Saviour and me.

When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or a key,
The cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me.

It reminds me too, to be thankful
For my blessings every day,
And to strive to serve Him better
In all that I do or say.

It’s also a daily reminder
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Master
And give themselves to His care.

So, I carry a cross in my pocket
Reminding none but me
That Jesus Christ is Lord of my life,
If only I’ll let Him be.

The Old Rugged Cross:

On the old rugged cross where my saviour died and bled.

There were only a few words spoken, only a few words said.

“Forgive them Father for they know not what they do,”

HE always thought of others and HIS strength came shinning through.

No wonder we love that old rugged cross and it will never be replaced.

For my Saviour’s blood was shed there as well as tears on his precious face.

Every time I think of how alone I feel, my thoughts turn to God’s son.

For he hung upon that cross alone until HIS life was spent and done.

Not once did HE try to escape his fate as HE hung there in pain.

Not once did HE cry for himself, but reached out to others in vain.

When the world turned black HE felt alone hanging on that tree.

For HE cried out, “My God, My God why have you forsaken me?

“You will be with me in Paradise”, HE said to a man hanging there.

Because the man asked for forgiveness and HE heard his prayer.

“It is finished,” were HIS final words uttered on that old cross.

People’s eyes filled with tears and overflowed at what they lost.

Our Heavenly Father’s son took away all our sins on that day.

To bear the burden for every one of us who have gone astray.

HE bore the pain and shed his blood so we could be washed pure.

And for all of our souls through HIM would find his redeeming cure.

FATHER, WHERE SHALL I WORK TODAY?

AND MY LOVE FLOWED WARM AND FREE.

THEN HE POINTED ME OUT A TINY SPOT AND SAID,

“TEND THAT FOR ME.”

I ANSWERED QUICKLY, “OH, NO, NOT THAT.

WHY, NO ONE WOULD EVER SEE

NO MATTER HOW WELL MY WORK WAS DONE.

NOT THAT LITTLE PLACE FOR ME.”

AND THE WORD HE SPOKE, IT WAS STERN.

HE ANSWERED ME TENDERLY,

“AH, LITTLE ONE, SEARCH THAT HEART OF THINE.

ART THOU WORKING FOR THEM OR ME?

NAZARETH WAS A LITTLE PLACE,

AND SO WAS GALILEE.”

GOD PUTS US, AND PLACES US WHERE HE NEEDS US TO SERVE HIM.JUST ANSWER HIS CALL, AND PUT YOUR TRUST IN HIM.

Easter Awakening:

Early Easter morning,
All my children ran downstairs.
Looking for their baskets,
That we hid behind the chairs.
They would tiptoe to the chair,
Then slowly take a peek.
We knew that they had found one,
When we heard their voices shriek.

When it was all over,
And their baskets had been found,
They sorted all the candy,
As the family sat around.
My youngest, who was only three,
Came over where I sat.
She held her little arms out,
Then she hopped up on my lap.

"Daddy," she began to say,
"Love you with all my heart."
"I have so many goodies here,
I don't know where to start."
"There's chocolate bunnies, chocolate chicks."
"There's eggs and jelly beans,
And little candy eggs, a duck lays,
When she flaps her wings."

"Marshmallow peeps and colored eggs,
And chocolate that is white."
"I even have the hard boiled eggs,
We colored late last night."
"But, I have a question Dad."
"I heard it on TV."
"It wasn't in my basket,
I don't know where it could be."

Where we should keep the memories,
Of Easter's Resurrection.'"
Then she held her basket up,
And said, "I've looked through these."
"What's the Resurrection, Daddy?"

At the Foot of the Cross:

At the foot of the cross, I lay it all down
Everything in my life, that's hidden deep inside
I give it away, for my Savior to heal
These fears that I have, that I've buried for years
At the feet of Jesus, my heart pours out tears
As I kneel and pray, my thoughts become clear
And I finally see what's so very dear

At the foot of the cross, I cry out in pain
Anguishing thoughts pour out like rain
But, amidst these tears, I find a peace so calm
As Jesus scurries in, the darkness fades away
My heart is freed, my mind once again sane
And the past torments I've had are forever washed away
My life burns brighter, like the dawning of a new day

At the foot of the cross, I'm loved and not lost
Where the Holy drops of blood, have paid off sin's costs
And the Savior was taken, now risen once more
Through the grace of God, the veil was torn

And the world was cast a new rope of hope
Dangling freely from Heaven, climbable by faith alone
To an eternal place, where sin and death are dead

At the foot of the cross, life can be found
On your knees draped in blood, on Calvary's sacred ground.

A Crown of Thorns :

There was, upon this earth, a Savior Who came to cleanse and heal.

He wore a crown of thorns upon His head, Our souls to ever seal.

He gave up the crown of Glory,That was rightfully His, that day.
That He came to earth to give, Unto all men, a glorious stay.

He put aside His own sweet crown, His signet ring that day,
That, maybe, all would come and walk, In His dear righteous way.

He loved us with a love so pure. On His head He wore a crown of thorns,
That His love would cleanse the world, And man could be reborn.

Mighty is the name of this Savior, Jesus. He redeemed the day.
For all who would accept Him, And walk along His righteous way.

They hung Him upon, an old rugged Cross, A thief on either side.
But, the day He comes back, again, He’ll take us to be His bride.

If we give our Hearts to Him,Who bore our shame on Calvary’s Cross,
Though we’ve sinned o’er and o’er, We’ll suffer no loss ...

But, only if we claim Him as Savior, And are not filled with shame.
Then, that fateful day, in Glory, He’ll proudly proclaim our name.

This is the love of one so dear,That He suffered agonizing pain.
So, when this life on earth is over,Through Him, we’ll be joined again.

By His tender mercies and pain, Of a crown of thorns upon His head.
He will raise us up to Glory, as was He After they pronounced Him dead.

AT EASTER TIME THAT WELL KNOWN HYMN: “THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.” GIVES THE EASTER MESSAGE. IT WAS WRITTEN BY AN AMERICAN GEORGE BENNARD IN 1912. GEORGE BENNARD WAS BORN IN YOUNGSTOWN OHIO, THE SON OF A COAL MINER. HE FOUND HIS FAITH THROUGH A REVIVAL MEETING, AND BECAME A FULL TIME MINISTER AS A SALVATION ARMY OFFICER. HE ALSO BECAME A METHODIST EVANGELIST PREACHING ALL OVER CANADA AND NORTH AMERICA. GEORGE DIED AGED 85 AND NEAR HIS HOME THERE STILL STANDS A 12 FOOT HIGH CROSS WITH THE WORDS: “THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.”

THIS HYMN WITH ITS POWERFUL WORDS HAS BROUGHT MANY PEOPLE TO CHRIST, AND PUTS INTO WORDS THE WONDERFUL MEANING AND MIRACLE OF CALVARY.

THE DISCIPLES THAT JESUS HAD TAUGHT, WERE NOW ALONE, BUT THEY WOULD UNITE , BE STRENGTHENED AND CARRY ON BRINGING PEOPLE TO JESUS. THESE DISCIPLES WOULD BE TRANSFORMED FROM BEING FRIGHTENED MEN, IN HIDING TO BECOME BOLD, IN PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL MESSAGE , OF FREE AND FULL SALVATION TO EVERYONE WHO BELIEVED. THEY WERE ORDINARY MEN DRAWN FROM EVERYDAY JOBS BUT, WERE NOW FULL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. WE REMEMBER PETER WHO DISOWNED JESUS THREE TIMES, AND EVENTUALLY RAN AWAY LEAVING JESUS ALONE WITH THOSE WANTING TO KILL HIM. NOW PETER WAS BOLDLY PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL, AND PREACHING, IN ONE SERMON ALONE HE BROUGHT 3000 PEOPLE TO FAITH IN THE LORD. I'VE HEARD SOME SERMONS BUT, THAT SERMON MUST HAVE BEEN SO POWERFUL, TO PERSUADE THAT MANY PEOPLE TO BECOME FOLLOWERS OF THE LORD. EVEN THE SHADOW OF PETER WAS SO POWERFUL, THAT THE SICK AND ILL, WERE HEALED OF THEIR DISEASES. THE OTHER DISCIPLES ALSO WITNESSED BOLDLY, TAKING THEIR MESSAGE THROUGH ALL THE EARTH. YES, JESUS THE SON OF A CARPENTER, AND THE SON OF GOD, UNITED BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, AND BROUGHT THEM BACK TO THE ARMS OF GOD THE FATHER. TODAY THE MESSAGE OF CHRIST IS PREACHED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AND PEOPLE ARE STILL COMING TO KNOW , THE SAVING GRACE AND PEACE, THAT ONLY JESUS CAN GIVE IN THIS MUCH TROUBLED WORLD.

Sometime overnight a property has been broken into along The Avenue , New Inn , Pontypool . Offenders have gained entry into a vacant property by forcing the front door and taking tools and other items from within. If anyone within the area has seen or heard anything in relation to this crime please contact police on 101 and quote the above crime number. At approximately 10pm last night , a resident from Festival Crescent was unloading items out of his van into his property, while the vehicle was unlocked and the resident was in his property , 3 males entered the van and stole a sat nav worth £100. These three males were confronted by the owner of the van but they all ran off towards the Llandegfedd way area of New Inn. We are asking for any further information and to inform all residents of this incident and to be mindful that 3 males are using opportunities like this to steal items. WE'LL KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS AND HONOUR HIS PLAN.

MY CHILDREN'S EYES TWINKLED;THEY SQUEALED WITH DELIGHT.

MY WIFE GLADLY NODDED; SHE KNEW I WAS RIGHT.

THE CHRISTMAS PROBLEM:

ONCE UPON A CHRISRMAS EVE, A MAN SAT IN REFLECTIVE SILENCE BEFORE THE FIREPLACE, PONDERING THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS. “THERE IS NO POINT TO A GOD WHO BECOMES MAN,” HE MUSED. “WHY

WOULD AN ALL-POWERFUL GAD WANT TO SHARE EVEN ONE OF HIS PRECIOUS MOMENTS WITH THE LIKES OF MAN? AND EVEN IF HE DID, WHY WOULD HE CHOOSE TO BE BORN IN A ANIMAL STALL? NO WAY! THE HOLE THING IS ABSURD! I'M SURE THAT IF GOD REALLY WANTED TO COME DOWN TO EARTH, HE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN SOME OTHER WAY.” SUDDENLY, THE MAN WAS ROUSED FROM HIS REVERIE BY A STRANGE SOUND OUTSIDE. HE WENT TO THE WINDOW AND SAW A SMALL GAGGLE OF BLUE GEESE FRANTICALLY HONKING AND AIMLESSLY FLOPPING ABOUT IN THE SNOW. THEY SEEMED DAZED AND CONFUSED. APPARENTLY THEY HAD DROPPED OUT OF EXHAUSTION FROM THE FLIGHT FORMATIONS OF A LARGER FLOCK, ON ITS WAY FROM THE ARTIC ISLANDS TO THE WARMER CLIMES OF THE GULF OF MEXICO. MOVED TO COMPASSION, THE MAN TRIED TO “SHOO” THE POOR GEESE INTO HIS WARM GARAGE, BUT THE MOOR HE “SHOOED” THE MORE THEY PANICKED. “IF ONLY THEY REALIZED I'M ONLY TRYING TO DO WHAT'S BEST FOR THEM,” HE THOUGHT TO HIMSELF. “HOW CAN I MAKE THEM UNDERSTAND MY CONCERN FOR THEIR WELL-BEING?” THEN, THIS THOUGHT CAME TO HIM: “IF FOR JUST A MINUTE, I COULD BECOME ONE OF THEM, AN ORDINARY GOOSE, AND COMMUNUNICATE WITH THEM IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, THEY WOULD KNOW WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO.” AND SUDDENLY, HE REMEMBERED CHRISTMAS AND A SMILE CAME OVER HIS FACE. SUDDENLY, THE CHRISTMAS STORY NO LONGER SEEMED ABSURD. SUDDENLY, HE PICTURED THAT ORDINARY LOOKING INFANT, LYING IN THE MANGER, IN THAT STABLE IN BETHLEHEM, AND HE KNEW THE ANSWER TO HIS CHRISTMAS PROBLEM:

GOD HAD BECOME ONE OF US TO TELL US THAT HE LOVES US.

THOUGH WE OFTEN CHANGE, GOD NEVER DOES.

IS THERE A GOD!

I OFTERN SAID YOU DIDN'T EXIST,

BECAUSE MY EYES WOULDN'T SEE.

I MAY HAVE GIVEN UP ON YOU LORD,

BUT YOU NEVER GAVE UP ON ME.

WHEN TROUBLES HAPPENED IN MY LIFE,

I WOULD HANG MY HEAD AND CRY.

YOU LET THESE HAPPEN TO ME,

AND AT TIMES I WONDERED WHY.

I WAS QUICK TO SAY IF THERE WAS A GOD,

HE WOULDN'T LET THESE THINGS HAPPEN TO ME.

I MAY HAVE GIVEN UP ON YOU LORD,

BUT YOU NEVER AVE UP ON ME.

AT MANY TIMES DURING MY LIFE,

WHEN TROUBLES WERE HARD TO BEAR.

I FORGOT THE TEACHINGS OF MY YOUTH,

AND SAID YOU WERE NOT THERE.

I'VE HEARD YOUR WORD AGAIN DEAR LORD,

AND MY EYES THEY FINALLY SEE.

I THANK YOU EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE,

THAT YOU NEVER GAVE UP ON ME.

NOBODY KNOWS THE POWER OF PRAYER:

Between Wednesday 27th and 11:30 am on Thursday 28th September 2017 a property was broken into on Sluvad Road, New Inn. Entry was gained by damaging the front door and items were then removed from the property. If you have any information regarding this incident please make contact with Gwent Police on 101 and quote log No.1700377771.

Between 6pm on Tuesday 26th and 7:45 on Wednesday 26th September 2017 a white Ford Transit van has been stolen from Heol Beuno, New Inn. If you have any information or spotted anyone acting suspiciously please make contact on 101 and quote log No.1700376106.

Sometime between 03.00hrs and 09.30hrs 11/10/17 a red Honda 110 registration CK15 YVG was stolen from Caroline Road, New Inn. Anyone with information or local CCTV please contact 101 quote reference 1700395385. Alternatively call Crimestoppers free on 0800 555 111.

On the 2/10/17 and 6/10/17 attempts to break into a garage on Chester Close have been made. If any residents have seen anything relating to this we are asking that they please contact Gwent police on 101. Bruce is a black and white sheepdog, he went missing 6 days ago. Today there were sightings along the M4 between Malpas and Bassaleg, other sightings around the 'Gollers' at the Gaer too. Can you please keep your eyes out for this 11 month old dog, he is and will be frightened, he probably won't answer you or come to you, but a phone call would be appreciated if he is seen. Missing person Jaymie James aged 49 years old. He has been missing from the Pontypool area since Friday 13th October 2017. Jaymie is described as a white male around 6ft’2” tall of a slim build with brown hair and a long brown beard. He often wears sandals and army green style shorts with a jumper. If anyone sees Jaymie, they are advised not to approach him as he has been violent in the past, and should call the police on 101 or 999 quoting log number 376 15/10/17.

The birth of God's precious son, And the life, He willingly gave.

But so much seems to distract us, In the busyness of our lives.
We lose our focus in all the happenings, Not knowing, we leave out Christ.

We lose sight of the true meaning, As we endlessly rush about.
Trying to find that perfect gift, Seems to cloud our Saviour out.

We need to stop and reflect awhile, Remembering our precious Lord.
His birth, His life and sacrifice, And all that He stands for.

For though the world may celebrate, It seems, though, for other reasons.
Let's keep in mind that Jesus Christ, Is the true meaning of the season.

NOTICE OUTSIDE A CHAPEL: “SINNERS WELCOMED HERE.”

Pray! 26 Guards:

Here's a message that will bring you chills. Have you ever felt the urge to pray for someone and then just put it on a list and said, "I'll pray for them later?" Or has anyone ever called you and said, "I need you to pray for me, I have this need?" Read the following story that was sent to me and may it change the way that you may think about prayer and also the way you pray.
A missionary on furlough told this true story while visiting his home church in Michigan.

"While serving at a small field hospital in Africa, every two weeks I travelled by bicycle through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies. This was a journey of two days and required camping overnight at the halfway point. On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine and supplies, and then begin my two-day journey back to the field hospital.

Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured. I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord. I then travelled two days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident. Two weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines.He said, 'Some friends and I followed you into the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards.

At this I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite.
The young man pressed the point, however, and said, 'No sir, I was not the only person to see the guards. My five friends also saw them, and we all counted them. It was because of those guards that we were afraid and left you alone.' " At this point in the sermon (that I was delivering in Michigan), one of the men in the congregation jumped to his feet and interrupted the missionary and asked if he could tell him the exact day this happened.

The missionary told the congregation the date, and the man who interrupted told him this story: "On the night of your incident in Africa, it was morning here and I was preparing to go play golf. I was about to putt when I felt the urge to pray for you. In fact, the urging of the Lord was so strong, I called men in this church to meet with me here in the sanctuary to pray for you.

Would all of those men who met with me on that day stand up?" The men who had met together to pray that day stood up. The missionary wasn't concerned with who they were, he was too busy counting how many men he saw. There were 26. This story is an incredible example of how the Spirit of the Lord moves in mysterious ways. If you ever hear such prodding, go along with it.

Nothing is ever hurt by prayer except the gates of hell. I encourage you to forward this to as many people as you know. If we all take it to heart, we can turn this world toward God once again. As the above true story clearly illustrates, "with God all things are possible" and more importantly, how God hears and answers the prayers of the faithful. After you read this, please pass it on and give God thanks for the beautiful gift of your faith, for the powerful gift of prayer, and for the many miracles He works in your own daily life. and then pass it on.

CHAPEL NEWS:

MYRA COLES, WAS TAKEN INTO NEVILLE HALL HOSPITAL, AND IS BEING TREATED FOR AN INFECTION. WE VISITED MYRA, AND I KNOW A GREAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE VISITED AS WELL. SHE IS STILL BEING TREATED, AND WE GAVE OUR LOVE AND BEST WISHES FROM EVERYONE FROM MOUNT ZION. WE PRAY THAT MYRA WILL BE SOON WELL, AND BACK IN HER NORMAL SEAT AT CHAPEL.

THE DECORATING OF THE CHAPEL IS GOING WELL, THE PAINTING IS STILL TO BE FINISHED. OUR CARPENTER WILL REPLACE WINDOW AT THE REAR OF THE CHAPEL, AND MAKE GOOD REPAIRS TO THE SIDE WINDOWS. WHEN THIS IS COMPLETE, THE WINDOWS OF THE CHAPEL WILL BE CLEANED. ITS GOOD TO SEE THE CHAPEL, AND GROUNDS BACK TO ITS BEST.

BEV HAS AGREED TO TAKE THE SERVICE ON THE 24TH SEPTEMBER, AS MYSELF, MENNA, MARGARET AND DELLA WILL BE AWAY, THERE IS QUITE A FEW AWAY FOR THAT DATE.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO OUR HARVEST SERVICE ON THE 8TH OCTOBER. AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS FOOD AND ANY MONEY DONATED WILL GO TO THE LOCAL FOOD BANK. AFTER THE SERVICE AS ALWAYS, WE WIL HAVE REFRESHMENTS IN OUR FELLOWSHIP HALL. DEREK.

GOD’S FINGER PAINTING:

I love when God,
starts to finger paint
Autumn’s glorious colours
with no holds or restraint.

The colours splash about,
vibrant shades of red
mingled with shiny slivers
of brilliant golden thread.

The streets begin to smear,

until they do their wind dance

ALL WE ARE TOLD ABOUT HER PAST IS THAT JESUS HAD CAST SEVEN DEVILS OUT OF HER, BUT ON THAT SLENDER IF INTRIGUING EVIDENCE SHE HAS BECOME THE PATRON SAINT OF FALLEN WOMEN. SOME SEE HER AS THE WOMAN WHO WAS A SINNER, WHO WASHED CHRIST’S FEET WITH HER TEARS AT A RESPECTABLE DINNER PARTY. OF THAT PERSON JESUS REMARKED THAT “SHE HAD BEEN FORGIVEN MUCH” AND CONSEQUENTLY “LOVED MUCH”. WHETHER SHE WAS THAT WOMAN OR NOT, THE DESCRIPTION PERFECTLY FITS HER. NO ONE WHO HAS HEARD OR READ IT COULD SURELY FAIL TO BE MOVED BY HER TEARFUL ENCOUNTER WITH THE RISEN JESUS IN THE GARDEN ON EASTER MORNING, THE MAN SHE HAD TAKEN TO BE THE GARDENER REVEALING HIMSELF IN ONE WORD, MARY, AS HER BELOVED TEACHER. THE PROBLEM WITH A GOOD STORY, AND AS HERS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS, IS THAT PEOPLE CANT LEAVE IT ALONE. DOWN THE CENTURIES SHE HAS BEEN JOHN THE APOSTLES FIANCÉE UNTIL HE LEFT HER TO FOLLOW CHRIST. SHE HAS GONE WITH JESUS MOTHER AND THE SAME JOHN TO LIVE IN EPHESUS AND DIED THERE. IN ART AND LITERATURE SHE HAS BECOME AN ALLURING, SEXUAL FIGURE, DISAPPROVED OF BY THE MOTHER OF JESUS. THERE IS NO HISTORICAL EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER FOR ANY OF THIS. IN FACT, THE GOSPELS SUGGEST THE TWO MARY’S WERE CLOSE IN THEIR SHARED DEVOTION TO JESUS. HER POPULARITY IS SHOWN IN THE FACT THAT 187 ANCIENT CHURCHES IN BRITAIN ARE DEDICATED TO HER, AND A COLLEGE AT BOTH OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE. AT EASTER TIME THAT WELL KNOWN HYMN: “THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.” GIVES THE EASTER MESSAGE. IT WAS WRITTEN BY AN AMERICAN GEORGE BENNARD IN 1912. GEORGE BENNARD WAS BORN IN YOUNGSTOWN OHIO, THE SON OF A COAL MINER. HE FOUND HIS FAITH THROUGH A REVIVAL MEETING, AND BECAME A FULL TIME MINISTER AS A SALVATION ARMY OFFICER. HE ALSO BECAME A METHODIST EVANGELIST PREACHING ALL OVER CANADA AND NORTH AMERICA. THEY WERE ORDINARY MEN DRAWN FROM EVERYDAY JOBS BUT, WERE NOW FULL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. WE REMEMBER PETER WHO DISOWNED JESUSTHREE TIMES, AND EVENTUALLY RAN AWAY LEAVINGJESUS ALONE WITH THOSE WANTING TO KILL HIM. NOW PETER WAS BOLDLY PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL, AND PREACHING, IN ONE SERMON ALONE HE BROUGHT 3000 PEOPLE TO FAITH IN THE LORD. I'VE HEARD SOME SERMONS BUT, THAT SERMON MUST HAVE BEEN SO POWERFUL, TO PERSUADE THAT MANY PEOPLE TO BECOME FOLLOWERS OF THE LORD. EVEN THE SHADOW OF PETER WAS SO POWERFUL, THAT THE SICK AND ILL, WERE HEALED OF THEIR DISEASES. THE OTHER DISCIPLES ALSO WITNESSED BOLDLY, TAKING THEIR MESSAGE THROUGH ALL THE EARTH. YES, JESUS THE SON OF A CARPENTER, AND THE SON OF GOD, UNITED BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, AND BROUGHT THEM BACK TO THE ARMS OF GOD THE FATHER. TODAY THE MESSAGE OF CHRIST IS PREACHED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AND PEOPLE ARE STILL COMING TO KNOW , THE SAVING GRACE AND PEACE, THAT ONLY JESUS CAN GIVE IN THIS MUCH TROUBLED WORLD. AMEN.

ON TUESDAY 21ST MARCH, WE CELEBRATED LENT. BEV GAVE A SERMON ON LENT AND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF CHRISTIANS. REV STEPHEN SMITH OF ST MICHAELS TOOK PART IN THE SERVICE GIVING READINGS. 15 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE SERVICE, AND AFTER THE SERVICE WE ENJOYED A SOUP LUNCH, MADE BY DELLA. MANY THANKS DELLA AND ALL THE LADIES SERVING IN THE KITCHEN. IT WAS GOOD TO GET TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE THE PERIOD OF LENT. DONATIONS WERE MADE, AND PROCEEDS WENT TO THE FOOD BANK, WE MADE £22.

OUR EASTER SERVICE WILL BE ON THE 16TH APRIL, AND AS LAST YEAR OUR SERVICE WILL BE LED BY THE REV COLIN BERG FROM LITTLE MILL. AFTER THE SERVICE THERE WILL BE REFRESHMENTS IN OUR FELLOWSHIP HALL. Three recent heating oil thefts in rural areas. Please can you check you tanks and make sure you have adequate security. Be vigilant of any suspicious activity and report any issues via the 101 number.During the early house of Friday 3rd February 2017 a black Vauxhall Astra registration No. DV61RYP has been stolen from Central Drive, Trevethin. If you have any information that would assist our investigation please phone 101 and quote Occurrence No. 1700042690.Help us find Preeya Gwent Police is appealing for information after a dog was collected from Gelligaer Dog Kennels in Gelligaer by a man who pretended to be the owner. During the offence a black coloured, female cocker spaniel, named Preeya was stolen. We now know the identity of the man who has since attended a voluntary interview with Gwent Police. However, we are now trying to locatePreeya. We believe in July 2016 Preeya was advertised as ‘free to a good home’ within ‘Pets for Homes’ and may have been given to a man only known as Rob, possibly Robert from the Brynmawr area. Rob/Robert was given to Preeya around September and may have links to a farm or a farm in Brynmawr If you know where Preya is or if anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log number 443 of 05/10/16 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Fraudsters are sending out a high number of emails to university email addresses claiming to be from their own HR department. These email addresses are either spoofed or in some cases using compromised university email accounts. The email claims that the recipient is entitled to a pay rise from their department and to click on alink to claim the pay rise. This link then takes you to a spoofed university website telling you to enter to your personal details (including university login details and financial information). These financial details can then be used by criminals, and the login details are usually passed around and sold for future fraud campaigns. It is advisable that all universities prompt all staff and students change any password associated with their university email/IT accounts. Due to potential data breaches, it is recommended that universities discuss with the IT departments about issuing a mandatory password reset for all users.

Please also consider the following actions: Don’t click on links or open any attachments you receive in unsolicited emails or SMS messages. Remember that fraudsters can ‘spoof’ an email address to make it look like one used by someone you trust. If you are unsure, check the email header to identify the true source of communication. Use strong passwords which include a mixture of letters, numbers and special characters, and include both upper and lower case characters. Furthermore, it is encouraged that random words as opposed to passwords with personal meanings (e.g. children’s names.)

Sometime between the 19th and the 22nd of February a Peugeot vehicle was broken into via the rear door and entry was gained while it was parked up in the Monmouth Close area , nothing was taken from within the vehicle. We are currently investigating an incident where a window has been smashed on a property at Princes Walk, New Inn. The incident happened at approximately 4pm on Thursday 23rd February 2017. Attempt burglary Two Locks Road, Cwmbran. Sometime between 08.30 - 20.30 on 24/02/17 damaged was caused to two panels of a Perspex door. If you have any information in relation to this crime please contact 101 ref log 510 24/02/17 .

We’re appealing for information following an assault on a teenage girl yesterday morning in cwmbran. At approximately 8.30am on Friday 3rd March 2015, a female was assaulted having just entered a lane at the side of Henllys Way, Cwmbran. The lane runs between Ty-Canol Row and The Neerings, Cwmbran. We’d like to speak to a man in connection with this. He is described as being in his early 20s, clean shaven with short dark hair that is described as worn in a quiff. He is around 5 foot 6 inches tall, slim build, wearing black clothing and carrying a black umbrella, he has a local accent. Following the assault he walked off into the toll path.The teenager is safe but is understandably shaken by this incident. Officers are on patrol in the area, offering a reassuring visible presence. Sometime between 07.00 & 16.30 on 03/03/17 at the rear of the shops on Llanyrafon Square a VW Passat was hit and damage caused to the rear passenger side light. A White Ford Transit was entered on Oakfield Road and a Mazda 2 on East Road Oakfield, Llantarnam. The containers had the locks broken and entry has been gained, a large quantity of tools and building equipment stolen. APRIL FOOLS DAY IS THE TRADITIONAL WAY TO BEGIN THIS MONTH. IN MEDIEVAL TIMES THE FOOL [OR JESTER] WAS NOT JUST THERE FOR AMUSEMENT. HE HAD AN INFLUENTIAL ROLE IN THE COURT, BECAUSE HE COULD S[PEAK THE TRUTH IN WAYS OTHERS COULDN’T. AS CHRISTIANS WE ARE ALSO CALLED FOOLS; PAUL DESCRIBED HIMSELF AS A “FOOL FOR CHRIST” [1 CORINTHIANS 4:10.]

IN WHAT WAYS IS THIS AN APPROPRIATE DESCRIPTION OF A CHRISTIAN? IN HIS LETTER PAUL EXPANDS ON THIS THEME.

A FOOLISH MESSAGE:
